Tiny ChrysanthemumTiny ChrysanthemumBlooming like mad right now. The 2015 garden is officially Under Development. The tomatoes and peppers are tucked snugly into the soil, the first sunflower has opened, and the peas are blooming like crazy alongside translucent pods that hint at the goodness to come. The potatoes are mounded high with straw and are still pumping out yet more foliage, The strawberries are blushing, and the earliest flowers -- gaillardia, calendula, chrysanthemums, petunias, statice, snapdragons and poppies -- all contribute to the riot. But that's nothing compared to when the sunflowers come into their full glory, the zinnias are poppin' and the cosmos is running wild. Not to mention ripe tomatoes, peppers hanging like Christmas ornaments and basil leaves just dripping with flavor! Oh, August, here we come ...
